Fun Times Filming Dramatic Television
I recently wrapped filming on a USC dramatic television series and I have to say, it was certainly a fun experience. It was also a great learning experience. Much of what we are taught is how to shoot with one camera but many times out in the industry, you are filming with two or more cameras for various reasons. That means as a director of photography, you have to be able to light and frame a scene for multiple cameras. Easier said than done. What works for one shot might not work for another. And the cameras have to be able to avoid seeing each other so it can turn into a camera dance. There is a whole new set of skills that are needed to work with a multi-camera setup and this USC production certainly taught me some new tricks of the trade. I'm definitely excited to utilize them on future productions!
